A weight loss accountability partner, and the habits to share
A weight loss accountability partner is someone who checks in on your daily habits while you check in on theirs. Research shows it helps: in Wing and Jeffery’s 1999 study, people who joined a weight-loss program with friends were more likely to complete it and keep the weight off. DuoShare lets you share the daily habits behind weight loss with a partner, free.
What the research shows
Wing and Jeffery (Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1999) compared people who joined a weight-loss program alone with people who joined with friends and got social support. 95% of the group with friends and support finished the program, versus 76% of those who came alone, and 66% kept their weight loss off fully at follow-up, versus 24%.
Share habits, not numbers
You do not need to share your weight. Share the daily habits that drive results, and keep the scale private if you prefer. That makes accountability feel supportive, not judgmental.

How to be a good weight loss partner
- Celebrate check-ins, not pounds.
- Never comment on the other person’s body.
